It is a type of ransomware, a cyberattack released in 2013. It targeted and infected Microsoft Windows users through spam emails with a malicious attachment. It used a botnet to launch the attack and encrypted the files and data stored on the local device and those in the synced cloud storage accounts. The victims were asked to pay a bitcoin ransom to get the decryption key.
