It is a variant of the CryptoLocker ransomware, which came by email with a malicious link, inviting users to click on it or download and execute an email attachment. Also, cybercriminals included the CryptoWall code in websites ads. Once executed, the ransomware encrypted the data on the host PC and other connected computers on the same network. Then it asked for a bitcoin ransom in exchange for the decryption key and the access to their data.
